As the oldest of ten, Muhammad naturally became an expert at protecting and empowering others at an early age.

Growing up alongside so many personalities sparked his interest in human behavior, which led him to study psychology at Morgan State University. He felt lucky to closely study the power of purpose and self improvement, but quickly realized this was not the norm.

In class, he learned that while everyone experiences trauma, few get the help to process their emotions and find productive ways to heal. In broken and ignored communities, this vicious cycle often leads to more chaos, and happens far too often.

His professors encouraged him to use this awareness to stand up, and give a voice to those left behind from outdated systems and failed programs. This is where he got an idea.

After graduating, he got to work and founded KEYS Enterprises, a mental health and mentoring agency that brings together caring mentors, counselors, therapists, and social workers to provide therapeutic services for youth housed in group homes within Baltimore City.

Several years later, his team mentors hundreds of children, provides clinical treatment, partners with multiple schools, and brings programming to communities throughout Maryland. He has seen both kids and adults learn to have fun again, heal with each other, and take control of their lives, all while handling difficult emotions in positive ways.

He is still fiercely committed to connecting communities with the right services so that they can make data, and person-driven decisions moving forward. His clinical approach has been embraced by the Baltimore City Council and Mayor’s Office , and he is driven to keep the momentum going.

In his newest role, Muhammad will now be serving the youth in education as the newest member of the Baltimore City School Board of Commissioners.
